Short Technology Training Course on Abaca Production

A Short Technology Training Course on Abaca Production was conducted last March 20-22, 2007 in partnership with United Nations Development Programme - Philippines Small Grants Program for Promoting Tropical Forests (UNDP SGP-PTF) and Upland NGO Assistance Committee (UNAC).
A total of nice (9) participants coming from various organizations attended the training. The organizations include: Landcare Foundation of the Philippines Inc., Minalwang Higaonon Tribal Councils Association Inc. (MIHITRICO), GREEN Mindanao Association Inc., Soil and Water Conservation Foundation (SWCF), Southern Leyte for Integrated Development and Natural Resource Management Inc. (SOLIDARM), LEAF Foundation Inc., Don Mariano Perez Foundation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DMPFMPC), and Interfaith Movement for Peace Empowerment (IMPEDE).
The training module includes Integrated Farming Systems Concepts and Principles, Abaca Industry Profile, Status, Problems and Prospects, Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) Extension Programs/ Projects, Abaca Production and Management, Integrated Crop Management, Grading and Classification, and Handicraft Designs and Lay-out. An exposure trip in FIDA Service Laboratory was also done to provide trainees actual and first hand information on the technologies pertinent to the course.
